Landscapes of Settler Colonialism
In this talk I explore the various ways in which places deliberately evacuate the violence associated with
conquest and settler colonialism. I focus in particular on historical markers and monuments in Los Angeles
County and how they narrate both Indigenous and Mexican history. Coming to terms with foundational
racial violence and developing accurate histories of place is the first step in working towards racial justice.
